Amanda vs. The Sneaky Kid
As a general rule, I like kids. And I usually get along with them pretty well... But there's this one kid at the library that really chaps my ass.
Really.
And I don't say that often.
The thing of it is... She's sneaky... Like in a nasty sneaky way, not in a "I'm-cute-I'm-pretending-to-be-a-spy" kinda way. I will spare you from the details of her daily plaguing, but let's just say my teeth grind when I see her enter the library. Like chewing on styrofoam. Like removing the little cotton ball that comes in a container of Tylenol. Like scraping ice from the side of a freezer. It's become that bad...
Am I awful?
I am awful, aren't I?

Not at all are you awful, I no say you awful (sorry, been reading Frank Miller, I know that means squat to most of you but it does explain my strange diction)
Back to the point: Amanda is not awful, she is merely coming to realize the truth: Children are cruel. Now don't get all huffy, we've all been children and been inhumanly cruel to our peers and had such behaviour visited on us. Children can also be nice (or so I've heard) but they are all a little of both, some have more than others or one trait or another.
What am I rambling about? I don't see why it is awful to loathe and want to strangle a child who chaps your ass(... wait. Okay,) than it is to want to do same to, say, a hypothetical sweatered wench who pretends to know what the hell she is doing and hold your future by the short and curlies, laughing all the way. Really I don't.
Just make sure you loathe the brat's parents too, because unless the kids a psychopath - which is possible - they are also at fault. Just don't hate yourself and never let the brat see you hating it or it'll become even brattier.

Congratulations on the job Val! Hooray for you!
And Amanda, no, you're not awful. There have been children who've come into the store that I've wanted to strangle, especially when their parents seem to feel that it is my job to supervise them while they go look at other books. It is not. And don't get me started on the one who always sits behind me at the movies and kicks my chair...
